Oakland's Food Scene Is Cooking!

Recently, USA Today (10Best Local Food Scene List) named Oakland #7 Best Food Destination in the Nation. Oakland was the ONLY city named in the list from the West Coast!
In Uptown/Downtown Oakland, many eateries are booming and gaining even further recognition in the media.

SF Eater recently covered Calavera's opening in Uptown: "Calvera has opened with a flourish in Uptown Oakland, bringing a flavorful menu of Oaxacan-focused Mexican food and artistry along with it."

The San Francisco Business Times also noted Calavera's opening, along with another restaurant at the Hive in Uptown: Drake's Dealership. Reporter Annie Sciacca details Drake's as "Taking its name from its building, which housed a Dodge auto dealership through the 1950s, Drake’s Dealership will offer wood-fired pizza, 32 beers on tap and a Drake’s brewery store with a station for filling growlers of beer."

Also, SFGate.com's Michael Bauer recently reviewed Flora in Uptown Oakland and noted, "The service, like the food, is comfortable and familiar. The waiters and bartenders are accommodating and efficient... He describes the 'Classic California' menu as "straightforward, but far from boring. A few unusual combinations and ingredients raise the interest level..." he continues.

Have you visited the West Coat’s Best Food Destination City yet?  What are your favorite restaurants in Uptown/Downtown Oakland?  Oakland Central is a great resource to help you plan your next visit to the heart of Oakland.
